Q
What do ECE 22.06, DOT and QCVN mean?
ECE 22.06 is the European standard and DOT is the American one, and the two test and certify differently. Most helmets here carry ECE 22.06. ILM models carry DOT, and several also show ECE 22.06 on the physical label. Xpeed carries QCVN, the Vietnamese national helmet standard. Read the label on the shell and read each product page, because one brand can sell models under different standards.
Q
Will a helmet bought in Vietnam fit a larger head?
Head shape matters as much as head size. Helmets are built around intermediate oval, round oval or long oval shapes, and a helmet in your measured size can still press at the temples or the forehead if the shape is wrong. Measure the widest part of your head first. Then try the helmet on in-store, which is the only way to feel the shape.
Q
How do I choose between full face, open face, modular and dual sport?
Ride long or ride fast and take a full face, because the chin is covered while the other three leave it open. Short city trips suit an open face. Stop and talk often, and a modular works better. Mixed tarmac and dirt calls for a dual sport. With modulars, check which configuration the certification covers, since a chin bar that opens is not the same as a fixed one.
Q
Can I fit a Bluetooth communicator or a camera?
Most helmets have speaker pockets molded into the comfort liner, with channels for the wires, so there is a place ready for a communicator. Full face and modular shells hide cables better than half helmets. Pockets differ between models. Bring your helmet in and try the fit before you commit. For a camera, position the mount and check it does not block your view before you stick it down.
Q
What can I get at each budget?
Three clear tiers. The entry tier covers open face and half helmets such as the LS2 OF610 and basic full face helmets like the ILM Z503, enough for daily city riding. The middle tier opens up shell materials and riding styles. The top tier is for riders who want a specific brand and shell construction. Use the price filter to narrow down, then pick by fit.
Q
What warranty and extras come with a helmet?
Warranty follows the brand. ILM and Xpeed run 12 months from purchase, Caberg and NIC 24 months, AGV 60 months provided the QR code is activated within 30 days. LS2 is covered part by part, so ask us at purchase. Every helmet comes with a dust balaclava and free cleaning for one year. Replace a helmet after any hard impact, even if the shell still looks fine.
BigBike has been trading in Ho Chi Minh City since 2014, at 79/30/52 Au Co, Hoa Binh Ward. Try helmets on in-store before you buy. A fitting shows whether a helmet presses at the cheeks or the forehead, which no sizing chart can tell you.
