Match your ride
On a classic, cafe racer or scrambler, the first thing to settle is the helmet's shape, not the accessories. The Z503 follows the retro full-face style with a short chin bar and a round fit. The shop found the DOT marking on the box and on the neck. What you pay for here is the retro shape, a clear visor with a lock, the microlock buckle and a removable liner. The short chin bar still covers the chin and suits the way classic bikes are ridden. Settle that before picking a colour.
If you have to wear prescription glasses or need a Pinlock, the Z503 is not the right fit.
Weight and fit
BigBike weighed size L with the visor at 1596g. That figure is worth holding in your hands if you ride long stretches and keep turning your head to check around you.
BigBike tried a 59cm head in size L: it fit, right size, no wobble. The round fit is the thing to watch if your head is long oval, since that shape tends to press on the forehead or leave gaps at the temples. Trying it on tells you more than the size chart. Decide by how it holds your head, not by the size name alone.
The weight above applies only to size L with the visor. Other sizes have not been weighed.
Chin bar, visor and buckle
Stopping for water on the Bao Loc pass, the short chin bar covers the chin with enough room to drink without taking the helmet off. The clear visor has a lock. Before a rough stretch, press the lock with the bike stopped, then ride on. In rain or early morning mist, the helmet has no Pinlock, so crack the visor open to let the fog out.
At midday there is no internal sun visor. Separate glasses do not fit inside either, so anyone who needs glasses to see the road should rule this model out from the start. The microlock chin strap is best fastened or released while stopped at the fuel pump.
Airflow, liner and headset
Stuck on Nguyen Van Troi at rush hour, air comes in through the chin and crown vents. There is no exhaust vent at the back. Know that before buying if you ride through the city at peak hours. To adjust the vents, stop the bike first.
After a wet ride, the liner comes out to dry. The padding has leather in a few spots. The supplementary label states an ABS shell. The ear area has speaker pockets ready for an SCS intercom. When fitting a headset, place the speakers in the pockets and try the helmet on before fixing the cable route.
Choose or skip
Choose the Z503 when you ride a classic, cafe racer or scrambler and want the retro look, a short chin bar and a round fit. The visor lock, microlock buckle and removable liner are the details you use every day.
Skip this model if you must wear prescription glasses, need a Pinlock or need an internal sun visor. A long oval head should also be careful, since the fit is round. In that case, trying it on in person tells you more than the size chart.

Measure around the head with a tape across the forehead and over the widest point at the back, snug but not tight. BigBike tried a 59cm head in size L: it fit, right size, no wobble, so a 59cm head takes size L. The fit is round, so a long oval head should try it on at the shop or send measurements on Zalo. The box holds the helmet, one clear visor, a cloth bag and the manual, and BigBike adds a free balaclava.
