Motorcycle touring armor is one of the essential protective items for bikers on their journeys. However, after prolonged use, touring armor can easily get dirty and often develop an unpleasant odor.
To increase comfort and confidence for bikers, touring armor needs to be cleaned regularly. The cleaning steps must be performed correctly for each type of material to ensure the product's quality is not affected.
So, how do you properly clean motorcycle touring armor after each tour? What are the steps involved in the cleaning process? Where can you find a genuine motorcycle armor and leather cleaning product store in Ho Chi Minh City? Let's find out in the article below.
Types of Touring Armor
Motorcycle protective armor is currently divided into two types based on material: leather armor and textile armor. Each type of protective armor has its own characteristics. And protective armor is an indispensable item for a motorcycle enthusiast. See more information here.
Textile Touring Armor
Textile motorcycle protective armor is often favored by bikers because it offers comfort and is not stuffy or hot to wear. This type of jacket also provides good abrasion resistance and water resistance because the fabric surface is coated with an additional layer of nylon or polyester. This type of jacket is extremely suitable for use when traveling in the city and in hot weather.

However, textile armor has the disadvantage that the mesh fabric surface has small holes, which makes it easy for dust and dirt to stick to it.
Leather Touring Armor
Leather motorcycle protective armor is made from genuine leather materials such as cowhide or goatskin. Therefore, this type of armor usually has high abrasion resistance in the event of a collision. Leather armor is often chosen by bikers when traveling on long roads and during multi-day tours.

Leather armor usually has a certain thickness to ensure the safety of the wearer, so this type of armor has the disadvantage of being heavier than textile armor and not providing the same ventilation as textile armor. However, cleaning leather material is much easier than fabric material.
Proper Steps to Clean Motorcycle Touring Armor
Protective armor, when used for a long time, often accumulates dirt and has an unpleasant odor. Therefore, to keep the armor clean, bikers should clean it properly after each tour according to the following steps:
Step 1
Remove the inner layer of the touring armor. Protective armor usually has a two-layer structure, with the outer layer made of leather or stiff fabric to protect the wearer from external abrasion. The inner lining, which directly contacts the skin, is usually made of a softer, smoother, and slightly thicker fabric. The inner and outer layers of the jacket are usually connected by a zipper.

First, detach the zipper to separate the two layers of the jacket. Then, wash the inner lining of the jacket (can be hand-washed or machine-washed).
Step 2
Next, remove the protective pads from areas such as the elbows, shoulders, back, and chest from the outer layer of the jacket. At the same time, check to ensure no items are left in the jacket pockets. Then, close all pockets and mark the armor pads (can use a white-out pen) to distinguish and ensure they are reattached to their original positions after being put back into the jacket.
Step 3
After removing the armor pads, proceed to clean the outer layer of the jacket. For different materials, there will be different cleaning methods.
Fabric Armor
The jacket can be hand-washed or washed in a front-loading washing machine. Avoid using a top-loading washing machine as it will twist the fabric fibers together. Also, avoid using strong detergents to wash the jacket.
Leather Armor
For leather material, it can be cleaned by soaking a soft cloth in a specialized leather cleaning solution and gently cleaning the stains. Do not use strong force when wiping the jacket, as it may affect the quality of the leather.

Currently, LIQUI MOLY is one of the reputable brands of leather cleaning products trusted by many. The product helps easily remove stains from leather and ensures safety, without damaging the leather material.
Step 4
After cleaning, dry the fabric armor. Absolutely do not use the drying mode of the washing machine. It is recommended to hang the jacket in the sun until completely dry.
For leather armor, after cleaning with a specialized solution, use a clean cloth to wipe off the solution or cleaning water from the leather surface. Do not dry leather items in direct sunlight.

After cleaning and drying the jacket, you can reattach the armor pads to their original positions and reconnect the two layers of the jacket. Once the proper cleaning steps are completed, the protective armor is ready for your next touring adventures.
