Overview
The JK-176 is Komine's summer riding jacket. The whole jacket is woven mesh, so air flows straight through while you ride, much cooler than thick fabric. It suits city riders and tourers on hot days who still want an armored jacket.
Best of all, it already includes a fairly complete armor set in the price, so you are not buying separate protectors like on cheaper mesh jackets.
Armor included
Per the brand, the jacket comes with four soft protectors at the shoulders, elbows, chest and back, all rated CE level 1. Having both chest and back armor in the price is rare at this level.
Straight talk so you choose right: this is soft level 1 armor, an everyday grade that helps reduce injury in a fall, not hard level 2, and nothing is absolute protection. Check the label on the jacket when it arrives.
Cool on hot days
The whole jacket is mesh, so air flows through as you ride and it runs far cooler than thick fabric. This is a jacket made for summer and hot climates like southern Vietnam.
In return, mesh is not waterproof and not warm. In rain you need a rain layer over it; for cold or wet days choose a touring jacket with a removable waterproof liner.
Fit & reflective
The jacket is roomy and shaped to the riding posture, so it does not pull tight when you lean forward. There is room for a t-shirt underneath, good if you like a comfortable fit.
Reflective panels on the arms and back help drivers behind spot you at night. It comes in white and black.
