Straight answer: the JK-185 is a touring armoured jacket for city and light-touring riders who often meet showers to moderate rain and want higher-level armour fitted.
Specifics: it has light-to-medium water resistance, a parka cut more closed than mesh, and CE Level 2 armour per label.
Note: this is not a dedicated waterproof touring jacket. If you often ride long in the rain, choose a jacket with a dedicated waterproof membrane.
WATER RESISTANCE
Benefit: The water-resistant layer lets you ride out a shower without pulling over for a rain shell.
Proof: Komine states it on the packaging: the jacket uses water-repellent fabric with taped seams, but the zips are not the water-blocking type, so light rain can still find its way in. In shop testing it stayed dry for roughly the first two hours and was wet after about four hours of heavy rain.
Straight talk: This is rain cover for a commute, not a jacket for hours out in the wet.
SAFETY AND ARMOUR
Benefit: The shoulder and elbow hit the ground first in a side fall, and that is exactly where the Level 2 protectors sit. The elbow piece also adjusts across two positions so it lines up with the joint on long or short arms.
Proof: The garment label lists the SK-866 ENIGMA G2 shoulder protector, the two-step adjustable SK-865 ENIGMA G2 elbow protector, the SK-869 ENIGMA G2 chest protector and the SK-815 air-through honeycomb back pad.

Note: in return, the JK-185 runs warmer than summer mesh when stuck in harsh-sun traffic. Riders mostly in hot-day city traffic should consider a mesh jacket.
UTILITY AND PAIRING
Benefit: The parka cut is tidy enough for the city and coffee stops without looking aggressive.
Pairing: Since the back only has an EVA pad, the first thing worth adding is a separate back protector, followed by knuckle gloves and ankle-high boots.
